CHALLENGE

This hillside villa required careful integration into a sloped terrain while maximizing privacy and panoramic views. The client sought a luxurious, nature-immersed retreat. Balancing engineering constraints with architectural elegance and connecting interior space to the landscape — was central to the challenge of delivering an immersive, tranquil living experience.

PROCESS

We developed a split-level plan that followed the land’s contours, reducing excavation and enhancing views. Locally sourced stone, timber, and large-format glazing grounded the villa while creating warmth and transparency. Outdoor terraces, shaded verandas, and green roofs blended the built and natural environment in harmony.

01. PLANNING & PERMITS

Respecting the hillside, we designed the villa to follow the natural topography. This terraced approach minimized excavation, stabilized the structure, and preserved native vegetation. It allowed the building to appear grown from the land rather than imposed upon it, fostering a seamless bond between built and natural environments.

02. SITE PREPARATION

We used horizontal volumes that stepped with the terrain, anchoring the structure visually and physically. Walkways and bridges connected the spaces, creating a slow, experiential journey through the site. Rooflines were kept low to preserve horizon views, making the architecture a frame rather than an interruption.

03. STRUCTURAL DESIGN

Earth-toned stone, reclaimed timber, and dark metal finishes were chosen to complement the landscape. These natural materials allowed the villa to merge visually with its context while weathering beautifully over time. The tactile quality of surfaces added richness and rooted the home in its mountainous surroundings.

04. INTERIOR & EXTERIOR

Multi-level terraces and shaded balconies were integral. Each outdoor space extended an interior zone, offering retreat and openness. Green roofs enhanced insulation and ecological value. By integrating landscape architecture and passive cooling principles, the design supported outdoor living as an essential daily experience.

RESULT

Stonehaven Villa stands as an elegant, grounded retreat. Its sculpted form offers uninterrupted views, privacy, and calm. The design merges landscape and structure with timeless materiality, creating a residence that is luxurious yet understated — rooted in nature and refined in its spatial, environmental, and emotional experience.
