CHALLENGE
Designing a light-filled home on a narrow urban plot required creative spatial planning. The client desired natural ventilation, openness, and minimalism. Achieving privacy and a sense of spaciousness within tight boundaries, without compromising aesthetics or comfort, was the project’s main challenge and demanded a refined, efficient design approach.
PROCESS
We introduced skylights, double-height voids, and layered transparencies to invite light and openness. Courtyards, custom millwork, and warm textures created a sense of depth and warmth. A minimalist material palette combined with spatial clarity ensured a seamless blend of privacy, efficiency, and modern living tailored to the client's lifestyle.
01. PLANNING & PERMITS
The narrow urban site demanded a vertical design approach. We used inner courtyards, skylights, and double-height voids to channel light deep into the home. These spatial interventions created a sense of openness while maintaining privacy, allowing the building to feel both protected from the outside and open within.
02. SITE PREPARATION
Open-plan layouts were organized into defined zones using elevation shifts and ceiling variations. Minimal partitions allowed uninterrupted sightlines, giving each space purpose without closing it off. Flow was enhanced through axial planning, connecting communal and private areas naturally while maximizing usable space in a compact footprint.
03. STRUCTURAL DESIGN
A calming mix of light woods, white plaster, and soft greys reflected natural light and amplified serenity. Materials were selected for their durability and sensory qualities, offering warmth through texture. The palette reinforced the minimalist ethos while maintaining a home-like intimacy and comfort throughout the interior.
04. INTERIOR & EXTERIOR
Privacy was achieved through thoughtful detailing. Vertical wooden slats, screens, and courtyard buffers shielded views without restricting air or light. This allowed the interior to breathe while staying hidden from the busy urban environment — balancing transparency and enclosure for a modern, livable sanctuary.
RESULT
The completed home offers light, clarity, and calm. Despite the narrow footprint, it feels expansive and connected to nature. The balance of function and minimalism supports daily life, while its aesthetic restraint and natural materials reflect both architectural discipline and the client's desire for a serene, modern sanctuary.
